Harry Craddock: sister Ruth Craddock Fambro

Ruth Craddock Fambro was born on February 26, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, USA

Miss Ruth Craddock, 5156 South Parkway, was married to Albert Fambro on Tuesday night, May 12, 1942 by the Rev. J. W. Winters. Miss Doris Craddock, a sister, was the bridemaid. Doris wore white with rose floral design. Albert brother, Anderson Fambro, was the best man. The reception was held on Sunday, May 17, 1942 in the parlors of Poro college, 4415 South Parkway. Mr. and Mrs Harry Craddock, the parents, assisted by Mrs. Mary Jones, receive for the youngs folks.

Albert Fambro was born on November 6, 1909 in Georgia. Albert died September 1978.

Zephyr Craddock had a taxi take her son Burton to the Fambro home on Saturday durinng the late 1950's while she gave piano lessons to up to about 22 students. Albert Fambro sometimes to Burton on trips like the Museum of Science & Industry or take Burton along when he visit friends. Albert had a movie camera and movie project and sometime shows Burton home movies of vacation trips or Walt Disney film. Some Saturdays Albert takes Burton to a McDonald Restaurant for lunch which include the first time Burton ate food from McDonald. Some Saturday Ruth and Albert daughter LaMage spend most of time with Burton during weekly visit at the Fambro home.

Ruth was a Chicago Public Library librarian at Stephen A. Douglas branch, 3353 st. during the 1960's.

A pair of parakeeks in a bird cage was in the Fambro's dining room.

On one TV broadcast in Chicago Post Office mailing sorting, Albert was seen seating in a chair. Albert was mailman.

LaMage got married during the during the 1960's. Burton at the reception had his first taste of caviar. Her son Mark about 43 years old wipe off Kenneth pants when Kenneth dropped wedding cake on his pants.

Lamage Carmella Fambro married Ruben Jimenez on February 26, 1983 in Clark County, California. The marriage type civil celebrant. Year of birth 1943.

Lemage S. Fambro

Services for Lemage S. Fambro 57 of 9333 South Park av., will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Olivet Baptist Church, 3100 South Parkway. Mr. Fombro died Sunday in Provident hospital. He had been a lobor foreman with the Baltimore & Ohio railroad for 35 years. Surviving are his widow, Lois; a daughter, Theresa; his mother Mrs. Callie Fambro; three brothers, and a sister. Funeral services for Amazon C. Fambro will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at metropolitan Baptist Church, 2159 W. Washington Blvd. he died Tuesday at his home, 1329 S. Troy st., after an extended illness. he was 52.

mr. Fambro an uncle of Theresa Fambro Hooks, the Daily Defender's Woman's editor, was a linotype operator for the Goverment Printing Office in Chicago for 20 years. Prior to that he oprated his own printing shop at 152 N. Wood st.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Callie Fambro; a sister Mrs. Erie Kibby; two brothers Albert and Flemister; and aunt Mrs. Ione Wright; and a host of relatives.

Visitation will be Friday, 9 to 10 p.m. at Biggs and biggs Funeral Home, 3246 W. Jackson blvd. (note: died Tuesday June 4, 1968)

Fambro rites Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Callie Fambro, 93, will be held thursday night Oct 5, 8 p.m. at Metropolitan Missionary batist Church, 2151 W. Washington blvd.

A one-hour vistation will preceda the funeral service.

Mrs. Fambro, whose granddaughter is Theresa Fambro hooks, former woman's editor of the Daily Defender, died Monday morning in her sleep at her home, 1329 S. Troy St. (note: died Oct 2, 1972)

Family members say she was in excellent health and had been in a very jovial mood before she went to bed late Sunday night.

Mrs. Fambro was born in Madison, Ga on May 13, 1872. She came to Chicago from atlanta in 1917 with her husband, the late Lemage S. fambro, Sr., and their five children. Their sixth child was born in Chicago.

She was a member of Metropolitan Church from 1930 to the present.

Mrs. Fambro is survived by a sister Mrs. Ione Wright; a daughter Erie Kibby; two sons Albert S. and Flemister C.; six grandchildren, Theresa Fambro Hooks, Jacqueline Kibby Cooper, LaMage Fambro of Los Angeles, Edwin Palmer, Thomas and William Kibby; and numerous great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Interment at Burr Oak Cemetery will be held Friday morning at 10.

Albert Fambro is the uncle of The Chicago Defender columist Theresa Arletta Fambro Hook. Theresa Arletta Fambro married William Leigh Hook III, a draftman at Jewel Tea Co. in October 1963. Thersea mother Mrs. LeMage S. Fambro service as her bridemaid and matron of honer. Mr. LeMage S. Fambro more was Albert older brother. LeMage died February 24, 1963 which was about 7 months before his daugther wedding.

A Chicago Defender article about Theresa wedding said Theresa mother name is Mrs. LeMage S. Fambro (refer by husband name) but the Feb 7, 1997 article about Theresa Fambro Hook mother said her mother name is Lois D. Fambro. Lois is Theresa mother given name.

Lois D. Fambro, 89, of Chicago died Tuesday in Granny's Haven, a senior-care residence. Mrs. Fambro, a native of Georgia, was an honor graduate of Speilman College in Atlanta, wher she was the president of the class of 1930. Mrs. was proud of her association with the college and made a point of returning to the campus for annual reunion activities. "It was one of the joys of her life; she just enjoyed her years at Spelman," said her daughter Theresa Fambro Hooks, a former vice president, editor and columnist at the Chicago Defender. Other survivors include a sister Iola Welch. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m Saturday in OLivet Baptist Church, 3101 S. King Drive. Serives will follow at 11 a.m.

Lois Davenport Fambro, mother of former Chicago Defender editor, dies - mother of Theresa Fambro Hooks - Brief Article - Obituary

Funeral services were held recently in Chicago for Lois Davenport Fambro, a former school teacher and employee of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). She was 89.

She was the mother of Theresa Fambro Hooks, a former columnist and editor of the Chicago Defender newspaper.

Born in 1907 in Carlton, GA, Mrs. Fambro started her education in a rural one-room schoolhouse and went on to graduate with honors from Spelman College in Atlanta as class president in 1930.

She taught elementary school in Alabama for two years before she moved to Chicago in 1932.

She worked for many years at the IRS in Chicago, and after her retirement, she served as director of the Day Care Center at Olivet Baptist Church. Mrs. Fambro was chaplain of the Chicago Chapter of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College and was elected chapter president of the organization on three separate occasions.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a sister, Iola Welch; brother-in-law, Flemister; two nieces, Jacqueline and LaMage; a nephew, Thomas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lois D. Fambro was born in Pike, Georgia on July 26, 1907. She died February 4, 1997. (US census 1910)
