AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Zephyr Martin Craddock is a native of Chicago and she
attended the Chicago Public Schools, graduating from
Englewood High School, Wilson Junior College and
received the Bachelor of Music Degree, with major in
piano, from the American Conservatory of Music.
Zephyr comes from a musical family and she, along with
two sisters and two brothers studied the piano. She
also took ballet lessons, and was a member of the
Allied Opera Guild while attending Wilson Junior
College, sang with the chorus and the Chicago Manuscript
Society.
Her, mother, Mrs. Alyce Nichols, is the organist of
The Eighth Church of Christ Scienist, and her brother,
John Austin Martin, is the organist of St. John Baptist
Church.
Zephyr is married to Harry Burton Craddock and they
have two sons, Burton Lewis and Kenneth Martin.
In P.T.A. she received the Illinois Congress of Parents
and Teachers-Honorary Life Membership - in appreciation
of faithful and devoted sevices rended in behalf
of children and youth(May, 1972). In September, 1972
she received the National Congress of Parents and
Teachers - Honorary Life Membership - in recognition
of devoted and distinguished services to children
and youth.
From the Chicago Area Council, Boy Scouts of America,
she received the Award of Merit for servive to boys of
the Grand Crossing District of such caliber and distinction
among all Scouters. In January, 1980 she received
the Silver Beaver Award, the highist national award
from the Boy Scouts of America.
In 1975, she received a Bicentennical Award of
Recognition for continued encouragment, cooperation,
and support of SAY Children's Theater.
Music has always been uppermost in her life and over
the years she has taught over one hundren students to
play the piano. During her years at Parkwy, she has
taught children from the following families:
Best, Sherman, Pitts, Koonce, Foulkes, Morton
She has served Parkway under the Leadership of the
following ministers:
Sherman, Stevenson, Bond, Koonce, Bolin, Enbanks
Foulkes, Brogdon, Gordon
Zephyr has worked extensively with the Youth Council
of Parkway, having been directly responsible for trips
taken to Wisconsin, Six Flags, Disneyland, Washington,
King's Island, Atlanta, Disney World, and others.
She served as secretary of the church from 1970 until
1985. During that time she was responsible for the
publication of our Annual Report (1974 - 1984) and
our Annual Tea Book (1970 - 1980). She served as
typist and organizer of our church newspaper, SELH,
starting in 1972.
Zephyr is currently the Organist of 23rd Church of
Christ, Scientist, teaching piano and organ and
involved with church, school, and community activities.
Zephyr is a fine Christian woman, and a true role
model for all of us. She uses he talents, as well
as her boundless energy to render vital service to
her community and her fellow-man.
