Zephyr Craddock's Obituary

Zephyr Mae Craddock, the youngest of Alyce G. Martin and Austin W. Martin's five chldren died Sunday July 16, 2006. But her death certificate have her death date as Monday July 17, 2006.

Zephyr was born in Chicago on February 8, 1930. She graduated from Besty Ross Elementary School June 25, 1943. Ross's princcipal Lois C. Morstrom gave Zephyr on June 24, 1943 a certificate award for neither absent nor tardy for one semester; and a cerificate award for faithfully served as School Marshal.

Zephyr was at home piano teacher for over fifty-five years. Most of her student were children.

Zephyr was employed at a Nursery School. The University of Chicago, Room 400, 581 Ellis Avenue, Chicago 37, Illinois. Known years of employment are 1957 and 1958.

Zephyr was a lifelong member of 8th Church of Christian Science. She was church organist for 23rd Church of Christian Science. Her mother Alyce G. Martin was church organist for 8th Church of Christian Science. After her mother died and 23rd Church of Christian Science was sold, Zephyr become the church organist for 8th Church of Christian Science. She served on the 8th Church Board as Teasurer.

She was an asssistant teacher at University of Chicago Nursery School.

Zephyr was a former oranist for Parkway Garden Christian Chruch. Zephyr seved as secretary for Parkway Garden Christian Chruch from 1970 to 1985. She was responsible for the publication of the Annual Report (1974 - 1984) and the Annual Tea Book (1970 - 1980). She was the typist and organizer the the church newspaper, SELAH starting in 1972.

Zephyr had held many offices in the PTA - Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers at three levels including President of John Foster Dulles school PTA, President of Lake front Council, District 1 ICPT Secretary, Study Coure Cootdinator District I Board, Cultural Arts Chairman Chicago Regian PTA. She was member at the local level of john Foster Dulles School PTA for over forty years. She been going to Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers' PTA conventions and National PTA conventions for over forty years. She revieved the Illinois Cogress of Parrents and Teacher's Honarary Life Membership in May 1972 and received the National Congress of Parents and Teachers' Honorary Life Membership in September 1972.

Zephy was Den Leader Coach of Parkway Garden Christian Chruch Cub Scout pack 4541.

Zephyr was a former member of T.W.O. The Woodlawn Orgnization.

Zephyr is survived by her husband Harry of fifty-six years; two sons: Burton and Kenneth; grandson: Kenneth II; brother John A. Martin; many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Zephyr's husband Harry B. Craddock, son Burton L. Cradock, mother Alyce Lavinia Nichols, stepfather Shelby Nichols, and brother John Austin Martn seen her awarded the Silver Beaver Award at The Council Annual Recognition Dinner at the Pick-Congress Hotel in Downtown Chicago.

Zephyr Craddock was honor with a Zephyr Craddock Day on February 9, 1986 at Parkway Garden Christian Church as a tribute to community sevicies in many organizations.
